Governments affect the daily lives of citizens and businesses in several ways but most notably through their powers to tax and spend. The quality and quantity of government spending on health, education and infrastructure has a significant bearing on economic growth and a country’s progress towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals and other national priorities.
