Shipping costs remain high in many Pacific island countries due to large fixed costs. Despite some good progress in reducing port charges during the last year (Vanuatu, FSM, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Timor-Leste), the inefficiency and cost of ports remains high in many Pacific island countries.
